Embracing Peach Fuzz: The Interior Design Colour of the Year

The Pantone colour of the year for 2024 is Peach Fuzz (13-1750)!

With its soft, fresh hue that nestles between pink and orange, this is quite a departure from the bold and powerful Viva Magenta of 2023. The aim of Peach Fuzz is to introduce warmth and cosiness to any space it should grace.

Pantone has defined this colour as “a heartfelt peach hue bringing a feeling of kindness and tenderness, communicating a message of caring and sharing, community and collaboration”. This is music to the ears of any interior designer who wishes to create a nest-like space for shared, positive experiences.

Incorporating Peach Fuzz in Interiors

Regardless of the space, Peach Fuzz promises to evoke a new modernity using calm and soft tones. The goal is to promote a sense of well-being creating an ambiance that is centred on the human experience, enriching and nurturing the mind, body, and soul.

When applied in residential spaces Peach Fuzz can be used as a pop of colour to cover a wall or a section of a room, giving the space a dreamy, calm feeling with a strong vintage vibe. For those who wish to take a bolder approach, Peach Fuzz works well with a monochromatic scheme since it is a soft colour that you won’t easily tire of and it compliments many other colours, including other pastels such as green or nude tones.

Another option is to incorporate a quirky wallpaper which can give a nice twist to a space and if you want to liven it up even more, try using a pattern that combines Peach Fuzz with other colours.

If you are a fan of white and bright spaces and are inclined to make a more restrained use of Peach Fuzz, it can be simply sprinkled into a select few specific design elements. Accents of Peach Fuzz in artwork and furniture can add that level of sophisticated detail that can make all the difference in the final scheme. If you are a beach or countryside lover, you can also combine Peach Fuzz with earthy and sea tones such as beiges and soft blues. At its core, Peach Fuzz is a “baby colour” so it is no surprise that when surrounded by it, it conjures up a sense of caring and nurturing.

But, what may actually come as a surprise is that this colour can also be found in commercial and retail spaces. Its power to create a calm atmosphere makes it particularly suited for small boutique cafes, beauty salons and spas, chic boutiques and, not so surprisingly, childcare & nursery stores. Some restaurants and cafes can also opt for this sweet and fresh colour which promises to tantalise the senses and invite customers to indulge in a sweet treat.

And last but not least, this pretty colour also works well in office spaces and shared co-working areas. The sense of community and collaboration is, after all, what Peach Fuzz is all about.

Historically, art movements are generally closely linked to the societal and social events of their era, so it is fitting that when we find ourselves at a time the whole planet seems to be in a state of unrest and division, people find themselves drawn to a colour that evokes a sense of unity, harmony and calm. This comforting soft shade is a wonderfully versatile option for designers with many colour palettes to compliment it as well as the mental health benefits of such a welcoming colour.
